Attendance Registration

Fitzpatrick2002, the Second International Gathering of the Fitzpatrick - Mac Giolla Phádraig - Clan Society, will be held in Co. Laois - the ancient stronghold of the clan - and will culminate on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 July 2002. The venue for the Conference and Closing Dinner will be The Killeshin Hotel, Dublin Road, Portlaoise, Ireland. A detailed programme of events will be published closer to the event.

The Conference

It is intended that Saturday will begin with some selected talks or presentations relating to clan culture, tradition, heritage and history. There will also be displays of prints, books, photographs, genealogical charts, maps and other items of Fitzpatrick interest. And, most important of all, you will meet with Fitzpatricks whose ancestors for generations have lived in this ancient land. Those interested in contributing to the displays, talks and presentations are invited to make contact with Ronan Fitzpatrick. Anything at all of Fitzpatrick interest will be very welcome. Some topics might include:

  • Famous Fitzpatrick individuals
  • Fitzpatricks at home in Ireland
  • Migration of the Fitzpatrick nation
  • African, American, Australian Fitzpatricks
  • Fitzpatricks in Britain
  • Descent from Mac Giolla Phádraig
  • Fitzpatrick molecular genealogy
  • My Fitzpatrick story (A number of attendees at Fitzpatrick2000 related their individual Fitzpatrick story and these individual family accounts proved interesting and popular).

Presentations relating to the different variations of the name would also be welcome.

Ancestral Search

Everyone attending is invited to display their family genealogy chart in the Ancestral Search Section. While typed charts are preferred, clear handwritten charts are acceptable. Maximum size 12 inches by 16 ½ inches, and send two copies. You can also send an A4 size family leaflet (about 100 copies) for distribution. Hardcopy only. Non-attendees at the gathering in July are also invited to participate and they too can have their family genealogy chart displayed in the Ancestral Search Section. A non-attending fee of Euro 8. 00 applies.

Fitzpatrick Genealogies CD

As part of her ongoing Fitzpatrick DNA research, Dr. Colleen Fitzpatrick has gathered a number of electronic format Fitzpatrick genealogies and has offered to make these available to those attending Fitzpatrick2002. If you would like your family genealogy chart to be included on a Fitzpatrick2002 Genealogies CD then Colleen would like to hear from you. Prepare your family chart in GEDCOM or compatible format and email it to her at cfitzp@aol. com Unfortunately, only charts in GEDCOM or compatible format can be accepted and hardcopy genealogies cannot be considered for this project. Copies of the CD will be available at the gathering at a nominal fee.

Important Dates

Those intending to submit materials relating to talks, presentations, displays, Ancestral Search and the CD project are asked to indicate their intention as soon as possible but no later than 31 March 2002 and to have everything fully submitted before 31 May 2002.

Site Visits

Saturday and Sunday afternoon will be devoted to visiting Fitzpatrick sites throughout Co. Laois. These will include Cullahill Castle, Aghmacart, Grangefertagh, Clonburren, Ballagh Castle, Errill, Castletown, Aghaboe and Ballaghmore Castle. For those who attended Fitzpatrick2000 alternative site visits can be arranged subject to demand. We've still to visit Jerpoint Abbey, Kilkenny Castle, Seir Kieran, Gort na Cleig, St. Canice's Cathedral, Granstown, Clough Church and Gowran.

The Closing Dinner

The Closing Dinner will be held on Sunday evening. Lots of caint, craic, ceól agus ól (conversation, chat, music and drink). Looking forward to meeting you there.

Searching for The Fitzpatrick

Do you think you are The Fitzpatrick, Chief of the Name? The search continues and if you think you are The Fitzpatrick (or you know who is) then you are invited to prepare a pedigree of your descent from Brian MacGillapatrick (who died 1511 AD. ) and a genealogical chart illustrating your pedigree.

The Fitzpatrick - Mac Giolla Phádraig - Clan Society, its agents and supporters regret that they are unable to reimburse any costs or other expenditure whatsoever in connection with these invitations. Submission of a pedigree and chart does not bestow any Title, Honour or Dignity to the claimants.
